AquaFlow: Mineral Oil PC Video

After watching several people build an oil cooled PC, me and my friend thought it would be cool to give it a try and at the same time, make it unique and look cool. My friend, being a carpenter, built the case known as AquaFlow that would contain the entire system in the single box. The case is in two sections, the lower being the tank where the main hardware sits and the hard drive and optical drive sit in a hinged upper section. We made the mother board tray able to easily slide upwards for easy access and maintenance to the system without having to drain the tank of oil. Anyways, we put this video together to show the system being filled and and fully running with 12 and a half liters of oil. Hope you enjoy our little endeavor, comment!!!

Cool guys. One question, why keep the fans running?? Surely that will labour the motors and they aren't needed if the oil is nicely circulated to keep it cool Same goes for heatsinks

NO , you actually? ...
NO , you actually? need , a radiator , so , when the oil gets hot , it cools down , otherwise , as the oil warms up , it tends to stay hot , it will actually be way hotter than with air.... so ,get yourself a good radiator , and THEN you're good to go . I'm building one of these for my living room, and as soon as it's ready , i'm gonna put it inside(ok, behind) a fishtank ...gonna look really nice ^.~

awsome build ya good idea putting some kind of cooling system. but ya it probably would be a good idea to ditch the fans they are only wasting power from you power supply at this point. Probably be a better Idea to use led lights? instead. but all in all wicked looking case that's probably the best case I have seen for a diy submerged comp.

I wonder if the oil? reaches heatpipes for ultimate cooling,another thing that would be nice to Put a Gtx 480 Or 5970 in the oil. Just a bit too much for me. Awsome video

If You were conducting an "experiment" by building a mineral oil rig, would YOU put $3000 worth of parts in it? s**t, I don't blame them one bit. Awesome job they did with the vid and build. Good luck reproducing this, unless You can find somebody skilled who can fabricate such a case from scratch. The numbers are amazing . . . 22c wow, You could overclock a $300 i7 920 to 6GHZ? with this cooling system probably ; )

At $10? per gallon, it is a lot cheaper than any mineral oil I've seen lately. Please tell me where I can get transformer oil for $10.

Regular mineral oil ...
Regular mineral oil will go sour. I definitely wouldn't recommend using mineral oil from Wal Mart or from a vet clinic. What you want is transformer oil, which contains chemicals to keep it from going bad (it's expected to last for decades). It's a little more expensive (~$10/gal), but worth? it if you don't want a stinking mess on your hands. Look up oil dealers in your area.

If you want to ...
If you want to purchase in large bulk quantities for a project like a mineral oil PC, a good place to go is a veterinary clinic because it, in it's purest form, is used as a horse? laxative. You are able to purchase large containers instead of a bunch of small ones hopefully keeping costs down. If you have an expensive system I am not sure I would trust stuff I get at Walmart as stuff I bought there always breaks. If you do get it there I would guess near the pharmacy.
